I ended up doing #1 and #2 tonight but almost ended in disaster because I don’t know what I’m doing. I booted the Live image of Debian and blindly used parted on the /home partition, not thinking the file system needs to be resized first. I
This task has three parts to it: 1) create a Debian Live USB drive and test boot/run parted from the live OS 2) resize the current drive's /home partition 3) image the new SSD with the old HDD’s partitions I think I'll keep them as separate
