World's Lightest Solid! Aerogels are the world's lightest (least dense) solids. They are also excellent thermal insulators and have been used in numerous Mars missions and the Stardust comet particle-return mission. The focus of this video
🧪 New publication from the Fluid State NMR group in Molecules (IF 5.1)! Our study shows that fenamates confined in silica aerogels strengthen CO₂ retention, with some CO₂ released only at 225 °C. These findings provide new insights into mo

What “aerogels” means
WikipediaAerogels are a class of synthetic porous ultralight material derived from a gel, in which the liquid component for the gel has been replaced with a gas, without significant collapse of the gel structure. The result is a solid with extremely low density and extremely low thermal conductivity. Aerogels can be made from a variety of chemical compounds. Silica aerogels feel like fragile styrofoam to the touch, while some polymer-based aerogels feel like rigid foams.
