Carotenemia is a clinical condition characterized by yellow pigmentation of the skin (xanthoderma). In most cases, the condition follows prolonged and excessive consumption of carotene-rich foods, such as carrots, squash, and sweet potatoes

Carotenes are photosynthetic pigments important for photosynthesis.
