At this time, I'd like to thank #Gracenote for buying the #CDDB project and locking us all out. I was the opposite of thankful at that time, but that buyout gave us the #FreeDB fork, then GnuDB, and, later, #Musicbrainz.
What “cddb” means
WikipediaCDDB, short for Compact Disc Database, is a database for software applications to look up audio CD information over the Internet. This is performed by a client which calculates a (nearly) unique disc ID and then queries the database. As a result, the client is able to display the artist name, CD title, track list and some additional information. CDDB is a licensed trademark of Gracenote, Inc.
