Wiktionary · Wikipedia

  • verbTo perplex or puzzle.
  • nounThe act by which things are confounded, or confused.
Full entry on Wiktionary →

In causal inference, confounding is a form of systematic error that can distort estimates of causal effects in observational studies. A confounder is traditionally understood to be a variable that (1) independently predicts the outcome, (2) is associated with the exposure, and (3) is not on the causal pathway between the exposure and the outcome. Failure to control for a confounder results in a spurious association between exposure and outcome.

Follow #confounding straight to each platform’s own tag page. Where a platform publishes open data we measure it above; the rest lock their numbers behind paid APIs, so we link rather than guess.

Every number above is measured from a named public API at the shown fetch time. Nothing is estimated or extrapolated. Platforms that lock their data behind paid APIs are not shown. Agents: the same numbers, as JSON, at /api/hashtags/confounding
