- nounA pigeon, especially one smaller in size; a bird (often arbitrarily called either a pigeon or a dove or both) of more than 300 species of the family Columbidae.
Columbidae is a bird family consisting of doves and pigeons. It is the only family in the order Columbiformes. They feed largely on plant matter, feeding on seeds (granivory), fruit (frugivory), and foliage (folivory).
