A labrys is a kind of double-bitted axe that traces back to the Minoan civilization of Crete. Originally a sacred symbol of the Minoan religion, it was adapted by numerous other ancient religions and cultures. It became a symbol in Thracian religion; a symbol for Zeus Labrandos in the Greek religion; and entered Greek and Roman myths.
