What “perennial” means
Wiktionary · Wikipediaperennial/pəˈɹɛni.əl/
- nounA perennial plant; a plant that is active throughout the year or survives for more than two growing seasons.
- adjectiveLasting or remaining active throughout the year, or all the time.
In botany, the term perennial is used to differentiate a plant from shorter-lived annuals and biennials. It has thus been defined as a plant that lives more than 2 years. The term is also loosely used to distinguish plants with little or no woody growth from trees and shrubs, which are also technically perennials. An estimated 94% of plant species are perennials.
