A salaryman is a Japanese salaried worker. In Japanese popular culture, salarymen are portrayed as white-collar workers who show unwavering loyalty and commitment to their employer, prioritizing work over anything else, including family (workaholism). Salarymen are expected to work long hours, whether overtime is paid or not. They socialize with colleagues and bosses, including singing karaoke, drinking, and visiting hostess bars.
