Ugly but functional, the first set of #tongs I’ve forged from scratch. A few major errors corrected along the way led to an half box jaw design. They hold the 40mm flat bar I need them for very securely. #blacksmith #metalwork #tool
I should make one of these log grabbers. Does look doable. Maybe from some of those old harrow parts I found, they look strong. Hopefully not too strong to drill though :) #DIY #Metalworking #Logging #Forestry #Tongs #Tools
What “tongs” means
Wiktionary · Wikipediatongs/tɑŋz/
- nounAn instrument or tool used for picking things up without touching them with the hands or fingers, consisting of two slats or grips hinged at the end or in the middle, and sometimes including a spring to open the grips.
Tongs are a type of tool used to grip and lift objects, often too hot to hold, instead of holding them with the hands. There are many forms of tongs adapted to their specific use. Design variations include resting points so that the working end of the tongs does not come into contact with a bench surface.
