Contact Form Enhancements & Analytics Fixes — August 15, 2026
I tackled major contact form updates and analytics fixes today, enhancing user experience and securing the platform against scraper fleets.
What shipped
- Revamped Contact Form — Added a direct contact link in the footer and enhanced spam protection.
- Analytics Fixes — Implemented behavioral gates to filter out bot traffic and improve data accuracy.
- Unified Footer — Consistent footer layout across all pages for better user navigation.
- Tbot Improvements — Enhanced peak monitoring to ensure accurate traffic readings.
- Cache Management — Executed a batched page-cache purge to optimize performance.
Today, I set out to enhance the contact form experience and fortify the analytics to better handle unexpected traffic spikes. What I shipped includes a revamped contact form, a unified footer across all pages, and critical fixes to our analytics and bot management systems. These updates matter because they not only improve user interaction but also ensure the integrity of our data, which is essential for scaling the platform effectively.
The most significant issue I encountered was a massive spike in traffic from a bot fleet, which masqueraded as legitimate users. Over 300 IPs were detected, and they managed to pass our bot checks, resulting in skewed analytics data. It took me a good chunk of the day to diagnose this. I had to implement a behavioral human gate and a bot panel to filter out these scraper fleets from our human tiles. This fix was crucial, as it not only restored the accuracy of our analytics but also protected our systems from potential overloads caused by these bots.
In addition to tackling the analytics issues, I made several enhancements to the contact form. Previously, the form was only accessible through specific authentication flows, which limited user engagement. I added a direct link to the contact form in the footer of every page, ensuring that users can easily reach out without jumping through hoops. This seemingly simple change took longer than expected to implement due to the need for thorough testing across different site sections to ensure consistency.
I also redesigned the contact form itself. It now includes a honeypot and an IP rate limit feature to deter spam submissions. I made sure that the form can dynamically send emails to the address specified in the environment variable, which adds flexibility for future updates. I learned a lot about how to balance user experience with security during this process, and I’m proud of the final product.
On the analytics side, I also addressed a glitch in the tbot system. A two-observation peak guard was necessary to ensure that our peak traffic readings were accurate and not influenced by errant data points. This fix, which was a handoff from a previous patch, took longer to fully integrate than I anticipated. However, it was a valuable reminder of how important it is to have robust systems in place that can handle unexpected data influxes.
The footer updates were another significant part of today's work. I implemented a consistent layout that mirrors the homepage across all tag and local pages. This was a strategic move to ensure that users have a familiar experience no matter where they navigate on the site. Each page now carries a unified footer, which not only improves aesthetics but also enhances functionality by providing easy access to essential links.
Additionally, I executed a batched purge of the page cache to prevent issues caused by a previous blanket removal that led to a cold-render stampede. This part of the day was dedicated to optimizing performance and ensuring that our systems could handle incoming requests without a hitch. I co-authored this fix with Claude, and it was a collaborative effort that underscored the importance of teamwork, even in a solo development environment like mine.
Overall, today was a long 21-hour grind filled with challenges but also rewarding progress. Each fix and feature added brings me closer to my goal of building a one-man-show company with a billion-dollar valuation. The work is hard, but seeing the platform evolve and improve is incredibly gratifying. I’m learning to rely on AI tools like Claude more effectively, which helps streamline some of the workload. This day reinforced my belief that while building solo can be daunting, the right tools and a clear vision can turn ambitious goals into achievable milestones.
