She creates layered works that investigate how our surroundings shape our inner lives. Through painting, printmaking, collage, and drawing, Barenz transforms observations gathered through walking, travel, and daily experience into compositions that balance figuration with abstraction. Barenz holds an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis and has completed residencies at the Art Students League of New York, the Chicago Printmakers' Collaborative, and the Pfister Hotel Artist-in-Residence program.
